AAPT13 Trekking Huayhuash Mountain Range 13D/12N

Considered as one of the most beautiful trekkings in the world, the Cordillera de Huayhuash trek offers amazing and beautiful views of the landscapes and high rocky, snowy and icy peaks of this impressive Cordillera situated south of the Cordillera Blanca in the Andes of Peru.

Day 1: Arrival in Lima, the capital of Peru.

Transfer to your hotel.

Day 2: Lima – Huaraz.

By comfortable public bus (or fly at extra cost) early departure towards Huaraz, the "alpine" town located at the foothills of the Cordillera Blanca. Hotel accommodation. (B).

Day 3: Huaraz – Chiquian - Llamac.

In the morning we arrange transportation from Huaraz to the small village of Llamac. Our drive will take us first to the town of Chiquian from where after a short rest we will continue to Llamac. Camp (3250m/ 10660ft).

Day 4: Llamac – Jahuacocha.

From Llamac we will start our circuit, hiking towards the beautiful Jahuacocha Lake. The trail follows the shores of the Llamac River, crossing beautiful natural gardens to finally arrive to the impressive camp site at 4050m of altitude (13120ft). From here we have a great view of the amazing Cordillera de Huayhuash and its impressive mountains: Yerupaja, Jirishanca, Rasac and others. (B, LB, D)
Day 5: Jahuacocha - Cuartelhuain:
Continuing our circuit on the left side of Jahuacocha and Laguna Solteracocha, we will ascend to the Sambuya pass at 4750m (15580ft). From here the view is spectacular with the icy and rocky mountains in front. Then we descend to the valley arriving to our camp site in Cuartelhuain at 4100m (13450ft). (B, LB, D)

Day 6: Cuartelhuain – Mitucocha:

Today we will cross our second pass known as Caccananpunta at 4750m (15580ft), a spectacular high Andean pass. Great views of the east site of Huayhuash range. Later on we will arrive to our campsite located close to Laguna Mitucocha at 4100m (13450ft). (B, LB, D)

Day 7: Laguna Mitucocha – Laguna Carhuacocha:

After breakfast our trekking heads towards the next pass at Carhuac Punta at 4600m/15090ft). Later on we will descend to our camp located at the beautiful Carhuacocha lagoon. Today will be a short day, thus in the afternoon we can relax on the lake area where you have nice opportunities for fishing. (B, LB, D).

 

Day 8: Resting day.

Today we will recover our strength resting at this amazing place. Perhaps we can climb one of the many smaller peaks in the area or just relax, fish and walk. (B, LB, D).

Day 9: Carhuacocha – Huayhuash:

Today we will cross Atocshayco pass at 4800m/15250ft with marvelous views of the Siula and Quesillococha lagoons and the surrounding mountains: Carnicero, Siula, Yerupaja south face, etc. Then we go down towards our next camp located close to the small settlement of Huayhuash. (B, LB, D).

Day 10: Huayhuash – Viconga Lagoon – Pumarinri camp:

Today we cross the Portachuelo-Huayhuash pass (4600m – 15088ft) heading towards the Viconga Lake. We will have great views of the Raura Cordillera. Then we continue our hike until we reach our next camp site at 4150m (13610ft) just at the hot water springs. Enjoy a relaxing hot water bath. (B, LB, D)

Day 11: Pumarinri camp – Paso Cajatambo:

Following the west side of Pumarinri River gorge we head down and then we climb to our last high pass known as San Cristobal pass at 4150 m/13612 ft). From here we trek down to the lower valleys until we reach the town of Cajatambo at 3380 m/ 11087 ft. Stay overnight in a local small hotel. (B, LB).

 

Day 12: Cajatambo village – Lima:

In Cajatambo we say good by to our kind helpers and mule keepers and then we will be transported back to Lima. Upon arrival in Lima we transfer to your hotel. (B, LB).

Day 13: Lima transfer out. (B).

In the morning we will transfer you to the airport for your flight back home. B.
