AAPT07-A Trekking Choquequirao 4D/3N (from Cusco)

Choquequirao is one of the best-preserved major Inca ruins in southern Peru and rivaling in importance with the world-famous Machu Picchu citadel. In fact, till the nineteenth century it was thought that Choquequirao might be the famous "Lost City of the Incas". It is located in the Vilcabamba Range where trekking is a great opportunity to explore beyond the well-known hiking routes to Machu Picchu. This is a challenging and rewarding adventure: great landscapes, high mountain passes, amazing views, and impressive Inca ruins are waiting for the trekkers in the heart of the Andes.

Day 1: Cusco – Cachora – Chikiska camp.

The day starts early in the morning from Cusco with a car ride towards the town of San Pedro de Cachora at 2800m. From San Pedro we start our hike to our camp at the place known as Chikiska. During the trek and from the high view point of Capulichayok we will be able to observe the impressive deep Apurimac River canyon. From this point we descend down to our camp. LB, D

Day 2: Cachora – Maranpata - Choquequirao.

fter an early breakfast we start our today's hike to our next camp at Maranpata. We cross the Apurimac River and ascend towards the camp where we arrive after 2 hours of walk. From here we continue our steep hike up the rugged trail to the remarkable archaeological complex of Choquequirao at 3300m/10824ft, perched 1500m above the Apurimac River. Guided tour of the Inca ruins and in the afternoon we walk down to our camp at Maranpata. B, LB, D.

Day 3: Maranpata – Aguada Camp.

This day we descend towards the river cross it and continue our hike to Chikiska where we rest and have lunch and from here we continue our trek until we reach the camp site of Aguada at 2650m. B, LB, D.

Day 4: Aguada Camp – Cachora – Cusco.

We star Early in the morning in order to walk the last 2 hours towards Cachora town from where our bus will take us back to Cusco. On the way back we will make a visit to the archeological remains of Sawite and Tarawasi. B, LB.

Not included: International and domestic flights, airport taxes, extras, personal trekking equipment, tips, Choquequirao entrance fee (us$20.- pp – this can be modified).
Grading: easy – moderate - hard

Personal weight allowance per passenger: 8 kgs (this to be carried by horses)

Fix departures with minimum 2 pax year round Monday, Wednesday and Friday: us$ 400. - (Commission 10%). Included: entrance fee.
