AAPT01 Sacred Trail to Machu Picchu 2D/1N
This hike goes to Machu Picchu following the last part of the ancient trail know as the Sacred Trail. Enjoy wonderful and impressive views of the Urubamba River canyon and then visit the beautiful Wiñayhuayna archeological remains to finally arrive into Machu Picchu.
Day 1: Cusco - Km 104) - Cachabamba - Wiñayhuayna - Aguas Calientes
The day starts from Cusco with an early train ride from Cusco towards the trek starting point at the Km 104. Here we will first visit the Inca Ruins of Cachabamba (2250m/7380ft) located in a lush green area from where we will start our slow hike up following the steep Inca Trail which will take us to Wiñayhuayna's ("Forever Young") impressive and beautiful Inca remains located at 2,700 m (8,856 ft). After visiting these amazing ruins we continue our hike until we reach the Sun Gate from where we get the first marvelous view of the famous Inca Citadel: Machu Picchu. We descend to the main entrance door and using a local bus we go down to the small town of Aguas Calientes. Hotel. LB
Day 2: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco
The day begins earlier in order to take the first buses going up to Machu Picchu (2400m/7872ft) where we will enjoy the sunrise followed by a guided tour to visit the most important places in the city. At about 13:00 we will be transported by bus from the citadel down to the village of Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon we take our train back to the city of Cusco. B.
