ECOBO01   La Paz–Tiwanaku–Titicaca-Copacabana     5D/4N


Day 1:    LA PAZ
Arrival and reception.  Transfer to the hotel and accommodation.  After check in we will have a tour around the city visiting The Murillo Square, Government Palace, The Parliament, The Cathedral, San Francisco Church, Artisan Market, Mercado de Brujas, Tiwanaku Museum and The Moon Valley.  Return to the hotel.

Day 2:    LA PAZ – TIWANAKU - PTO. PEREZ
Breakfast. Drive approximately 70 km. from La Paz towards Tiwanaku, perhaps the most important archaeological site in Bolivia.  Here we can observe the Akapana and Kalasasaya temples, Keri Kala and Puma Punku, gates of the Sun and the Moon, and the agricultural hydraulic systems and other important relics still there as evidences of the ancestral ceremonial centre of the Tiwanaku Empire. Late afternoon transport to Pto. Perez. Hotel accommodation.  (B,L)

Day 3:    PTO. PEREZ – COPACABANA
Transport by train to Kalahuta and Suriqui island where we can observe the indigenous people dedicated to the construction of “Balsas de Totora”, the same used by the scientific Thord Heyderdal for his crossing on the Pacific Ocean.  We continue afterwards to Copacabana town where we will visit the Inca’s sky observatory and the Basilica. Hotel in Copacabana. (B,L).

Day 4:    COPACABANA SUN ISLAND – LA PAZ
In the morning excursion to the Island of the Sun. This legendary and ancestral island belongs to the origins of the Inca Empire and here will enjoy visiting their temples, archaeology heritages such as the Inca’s step and fountain, the ruins of Pilcocaina, Inca trails, agricultural works, etc. After lunch transport back to La Paz. Hotel accommodations. (B).

DAY 5:    LA PAZ TRANSFER OUT.
After breakfast transfer to the airport, bus/train station or program extension. (B).

ECOBO02   La Paz- Uyuni Salt Desert – Potosi – Sucre 5D/4N

 

Important note: Traveling in the Salar de Uyuni area is an unforgetable experience however existing infraestructure is very basic so accommodations are in tents or very basic huts. Food provided are also expedition meals prepared by a cook or the guide. Passengers taking part on this tour have to be ready for discomforts and to participate with a positive actittude. Do not expect hot water, first class toilets, warm bed or so on.

Definitly this tour is not for passengers with high expectations in accommodation.

 

Day 1:    LA PAZ-ORURO-UYUNI
Transfer from your hotel in La Paz to the bus station and overland trip to Oruro. Short city tour in Oruro and then night at transport by train to the small city of Uyuni.

Day 2:    FULL DAY TOUR TO THE SALAR DE UYUNI
Early morning overland through the Salt Desert of Uyuni to visit the Isla de Pescado located at 70 km inside the desert. This is one of the most interesting tours in Bolivia visiting the highest salt desert in the world. Hotel in Uyuni. (B,L).

Day 3:    UYUNI - POTOSI
In the Morning a bus will transport to the city of Potosi. The bus ride goes along an impressive landscape of desert areas. Afternoon visit of a tin and silver mine. Visit to the colonial city. Hotel. (B)

Day 4:    SUCRE
Early morning bus ride to Sucre City. Upon arrival transfer to the hotel and afterwards visit to the well preserved white colonial city of Sucre, historical capital of Bolivia, a treasure of colonial art, monuments, churches, also declared Historical and Cultural Patrimony of the World by the Unesco.  A real hit for culture lovers.  (B)

Day 5:    SUCRE - LA PAZ
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport, station or program extension. (B).

ECOBO03  La Paz-Salt Desert-Volcanoes and Lagoons of the South Lipez-Potosi-Sucre          7D/6N

Day 1:    LA PAZ-ORURO-UYUNI
Transfer from your hotel in La Paz to the bus station and overland trip to Oruro. Short city tour in Oruro and then night transport by train to the small city of Uyuni.

Day 2:    UYUNI – SAN JUAN 
70 km ride over the Salt Desert to visit the little volcanic island ISLA DE PESCADO. Walk around the island and box lunch. Another 40 km over the Salt Desert and then to San Juan village. Overnight in tents or refuges without private facilities.(B,L,D)

Day 3:    SAN JUAN – LAGUNA COLORADA 
8 hours 4x4 car drive through the desert of Chiguana, the high altitude lagoons of Cañapa and Hedionda. We can observe the largest Saint James Flamingos colony, Honda Lagoon, the desert of Siloli and the rocky area known as Arbol de Piedra. Arrival at Laguna Colorada and overnight in tents or refuge without private facilities. (B, L, D).

Day 4:    LAGUNA COLORADA - UYUNI
10 hours 4x4 car drive through the South Lipez highlands visiting on the way the Valle de las Rocas, Alota, and arrival in Uyuni at dawn. Basic Hostal accommodation with private facilities.  (B, L).

Day 5:    UYUNI - POTOSI
6 hours 4x4 car drive across the mining region of Bolivia, a nice region of desert, mountains and fertile little valleys. Arrival in Potosi.  Afternoon visit of the city declared Historical and Cultural Patrimony of the World by the Unesco with its colonial monuments and museums. Hotel with private facilities.  (B)

Day 6:    POTOSI - SUCRE 
3 hours overland by bus to the city of SUCRE.  Afternoon visit of this beautiful Colonial City, declared Historical and Cultural Patrimony of the World by the Unesco. Visit to the principal historical and religious colonial monuments and the Asur textile museum.  Hotel with comfort and all facilities. (B).

Day 7:  SUCRE TRANSFER OUT
Transfer to the airport, bus station or program extension.

Included: private transport, bilingual guide, accommodation, noted meals.

Remarks:  lodge on days 1, 2, 3, are very basic (in tents or refuges) and sleeping bag is very important for the cold nights. No hotel categories during these days. In Uyuni, maximum 2 star hotel. In Potosi maximum 3 star superior.

 

ECOBO04    La Paz-Salt Desert-Volcanoes and Lagoons of the South Lipez-Potosi-Sucre   9D/8N

Day 1:    LA PAZ – ORURO - JIRIRA

Starting from La Paz we drive towards Oruro, the mining city of Bolivia.  Our journey continues towards Lake Popoo and finally arrives at the Salt Desert and the little village of Jirira at the foot lands of Tunupa Volcano. Tents or refuge accommodations (no private facilities).  (L,D).

 



Day 2:    JIRIRA – SAN JUAN
Morning visit of the Chullpas (burial site) and short hike up to the volcano for a unique view over the Salar. 70 km overland on the Salt Desert to visit the little volcanic island Isla de Pescado. Hike around and box lunch. Another 40 km overland trip along the Salt Desert towards San Juan village. Overnight in tents or refuge (no private facilities). (B,L,D)

Day 3:    SAN JUAN – LAGUNA COLORADA
Drive through the desert of Chiguana, High altitude lagoons of Cañapa, Hedionda where we can observe the largest Saint James Flamingos colony. Observe the impressive desert of Siloli and the rocky landscape known as Arbol de Piedra. Arrival at Laguna Colorada for overnight in tents or refuge (no private facilities). (B,L,D)

Day 4:    LAGUNA COLORADA – LAGUNA VERDE – ALOTA VILLAGE.
Early morning (around 5 am.) overland trip to the Geysers of the Rising Sun, Laguna Salada, Desert of Salvador Dali, Laguna Verde and Volcano Llicancabur. Return in direction to the Laguna Colorada and overland on the other side through the Bolivian highland up to the Valle de Las Rocas and Alota village. Overnight in tents or refuge (no private facilities). (B,L,D)

Day 5:    ALOTA – UYUNI - POTOSI
Overland to Vilama and Pampa Colorada continuing afterwards to Uyuni. Stop for lunch and continuing afterwards through the traditional mining region of Bolivia with desert, colourful mountains and little Andean oasis to a final arrival in the city of Potosi. Overnight in a hotel with private facilities.

Day 6:    POTOSI - SUCRE
Morning visit of a tin and silver mine of the historical Cerro Rico Hill. Visit to the colonial city and to the museum of La Casa de la Moneda. In the afternoon a 3 hours overland trip will take us to SUCRE city. Hotel accommodations. (B).

Day 7:    SUCRE
Half-day visit to the Colonial City of Sucre declared Historical and Cultural Patrimony of the World by the Unesco visiting the principal historical and religious colonial monuments and the Asur textile museum. Free afternoon. Hotel with comfort and all facilities. (B).

Day 8:    SUCRE – LA PAZ
Morning transfer to the airport. Flight back to La Paz.  Transfer to the hotel. Free afternoon. In the evening dinner with folk music and dances.

Day 9:    LA PAZ – TRANSFER OUT
Breakfast. Transport to the airport, bus or train station (or program extension). (B).

Day 1:  LA PAZ: 
Arrival and transfer to your hotel. Visit to the city of La Paz including San Francisco Church, Handicraft Market, Government Square, Jaen Street Museum, Residential areas and the impressive Moon Valley. Hotel (L).

Day 2:  LA PAZ – TITICACA LAKE
Overland trip to the ruins of Tiwanaku, Bolivia’s most important archaeological site. Visit to the temples of Kalasaya, Puma Punku, Akapana pyramid, Gate of the Sun and the Moon.  Visit of the Museum and the Church of the Village.  Mid afternoon overland transfer to PUERTO PEREZ village on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Hotel accommodations. (B, L).

Day 3:    TITICACA LAKE – SURIQUI ISLANDS - PTO. PEREZ
Full day trip cruising to a community of  Suriqui Islands to visit the local people and learn about their skill to built the famous  papyrus “Balsas” and observe their daily activities. Cruising again transfer to the Kalahuta archaeological site lying along one of the most beautiful bays of the Lake. Visit with 2 hours walk along the site.  Return in the afternoon to Puerto Perez for overnight.  (B,L).

Day 4:   PTO. PEREZ – CONDORIRI ANDEAN REGION.  
Full day trip to the Royal Andean Mountain Range. Overland by 4x4 to reach the Condoriri Peak Region and then 2 hours trek along beautiful Andean trails to reach the altitude lagoon ChiarKhota at 4600 m. This is surrounded by the impressive snowy and rocky peaks: Aguja Negra Peak, Condoriri Peak, Mount Pequeño Alpamayo, etc. Light trek around the site and picnic lunch. In the afternoon return to Puerto Perez. Hotel accommodations. (B,L).

Day 5:    PTO. PEREZ – LA PAZ.
Return to the city of La Paz and afternoon at leisure to visit the markets, modern art galleries, etc.  Overnight. (B).

Day 6:    LA PAZ – JIRIRA 
Transfer from your Hotel in La Paz to the bus station and overland trip to ORURO. Reception and 4x4 drive 6 hours trip along the rest of Lake Popoo, Challapata, Huari, Sevaruyo, Rio Mulato, Colchane to reach the Salt Desert and the little village of Jirira at the foot of the Tunupa Volcano. Overnight in tents or refuge (no private facilities). (B,L,D)

Day 7:    JIRIRA – ISLA DE PESCADO - UYUNI

Day 9:    POTOSI - SUCRE

Day 10:    SUCRE – LA PAZ

Day 6:    SAN JUAN – LAGUNA COLORADA 
8 hours 4x4 car drive through the desert of Chiguana, High altitude lagoons of Cañapa, Hedionda. Day 7:    LAGUNA COLORADA – SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA (CHILE)
5h30 am. start our overland trip to the Geyser of the Rising Sun, Laguna Salada, Desert of Salvador Dali, Laguna Verde and Volcano Llicancabur. Continuing towards the border with Chile we meet with the Chilean vehicle for a transfer to San Pedro de Atacama.  Arrival at your hotel around 14h00 p.m.. Afternoon visit to the anthropology museum and the Moon Valley.  (B,L)

Day 8:  SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA – CALAMA - IQUIQUE
Overland transfer to Calama. Flight to Iquique. Reception and overland trip through the desert of the Pacific Coast with its lost and empties villages of the past century, its geo signs, the rock paintings, National Pampa de Tamarugal park etc.  Late afternoon arrival in Arica, small harbor city on the Sea Coast. Hotel. (B,L)

Day 9:   IQUIQUE – SAJAMA NATIONAL PARK – LA PAZ
Overland trip leaving sea level to cross the desert and climb along the Andean Range up to the Lauca National Park and Chungara Lake and Volcano. Amazing trip to watch the Andean animals like the Guanaco, Alpacas, Vicuñas, Andean Ostrich, Rabbits, Andean Eagle, etc. Arrival at the Bolivian Border at 4200 m and traverse to the Sajama National Park around the Sajama Volcano and village. Arrival to La Paz late in the afternoon. Hotel accommodations. In the evening dinner with folk music and dances. (B,L,D).

Day 10:    LA PAZ transfer out. 
Transfer to airport, train/bus station or program extension.

ECOBO07 The Ecological and  Multicultural Bolivian Trail.    13D/12N

Day 1:    LA PAZ. 
Arrival and transfer to your hotel. Visit to the city of La Paz including San Francisco Church, Handicraft Market, Government Square, Jaen Street Museum, Residential Ares and Moon Valley.  Overnight.

Day 2:    LA PAZ – TIWANAKU – LAKE TITICACA.
Overland trip towards Tiwanaku, Bolivia’s most important archaeological site and visit to the temples of Kalasaya, Puma Punku, Akapana pyramid, Gate of the Sun and the Moon.  Visit to the interesting Museum and the Church of the Village.  Mid afternoon overland transfer to PUERTO PEREZ village on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Hotel(B,L).

Day 3:    TITICACA LAKE – MOON & SUN ISLANDS     
Cruise to the Island of  Paco with visit to an indigenous community who is using the Andean Papyrus for the construction of boats, handicraft, etc. Afterwards we continue by boat to the Moon Island visiting the archaeological sites.  Cruise again to reach Sun Island for a visit to the historical and archaeological site of Pilkokaïna. Lunch followed by a light hike around the Island.  Overnight in an EcoLodge. (B, L)


Day 4:    COPACABANA – LA PAZ 
Cruise to the village of Copacabana and visit to the archaeological observatory La Horca del Inca, the Inca’s bath and colonial Calvary. Afternoon overland transport across a panoramic highland back to the city of La Paz. Hotel. (B).

Day 5:    LA PAZ - COCHABAMBA
Morning transfer to the bus terminal and departure by regular Pullman bus to the city of  Cochabamba. We will enjoy an 8 hours trip through the Bolivian highplateau and then descending towards the template valley of Cochabamba. Transfer to your hotel (B).

Day 6:    COCHABAMBA
Day to visit the city of Cochabamba: the archaeological museum, the villages of Quillacollo, Pairumani farm, Tiquipaya valley and enjoy the surrounding landscapes. (B)

Day 7:    COCHABAMBA – SANTA CRUZ     
Transfer to the bus terminal and departure by regular Pullman bus to Santa Cruz.  Full day journey beginning with a ride on the middle high plateau and then with a descend to the tropical valley of Chapare and the region of Yapacani and Buena Vista. Arrival in Santa Cruz and transfer to your hotel. (B)

Day 8:    SANTA CRUZ
Day to enjoy visiting the city of Santa Cruz including the museum of the Cathedral, Museum of Art and Folklore and Museum of History ending at the Art-Campo, a traditional local handicraft market.  (B)

Day 9: SANTA CRUZ  - CHIQUITANIA
Overland trip to the Jesuit Missions of the Gran Chiquitania passing through the villages of San Javier, La Piedras, Concepción, visit of the Jesuit Church and the Mission Museum and at the end of the afternoon after a trip of 540 km throughout a lovely soft subtropical surroundings final arrival into San Ignacio de Velasco.  Overnight. Day 10:    JESUIT MISSIONS 

Full day tour to visit the Jesuit Missions of Santa Ana, San Miguel, San Rafael and to exchange culture with the inhabitants of these little villages full of friendly life and traditions. Return on mid afternoon to San Ignacio.  In the evening enjoy a wonderful concert of baroque music in the church of San Ignacio. (B,L,D)

Day 11:    JESUIT MISSIONS - CONCEPCION
Morning visit to a local indigenous community with horse riding through the sub tropical surrounding and barbecue with demonstrations of their folklore and dances.  Overland transfer to Concepcion and overnight.  (B,L,D)

Day 12:    CONCEPCION – SANTA CRUZ 
Overland backs to San Javier, visit of the Mission and Museum, and then transfer to Santa Cruz. Hotel accommodations.  (B,L)

Day 13:    SANTA CRUZ TRANSFER OUT 
Transfer to the airport, bus station or program extension.
