Bolivia Climbing Programs

 

 

AABC01 Huayna Potosi (6088 m)      2D/1N


With its impressive height of 6088 m, Huayna Potosi has an attractive presence for your eyes besides being an interesting and challenging climb.

 

Day 1: Base Camp. We drive for 2 hours from La Paz to the Zongo plateau at 4700 m, and then we climb along the moraines until we reach the glacier and reach our campsite called The Falcons Nest. Camp at 5500 m.

Day 2: Summit-La Paz. The climb to the summit takes about 6 hours and another 4 hours to go back to the Zongo plateau. Return to La Paz by car.

AABC02   Illimani South Peak     (6490 m)               5D/4N

 

Day 1: Puente Roto. Drive from La Paz for 4 hours to the town of Cohoni through the Valley of the Souls. After 4 hours trek we arrive at Puente Roto, our base camp at 4500 m. (L,D)

Day 2: Nido de Condores. A 5-hour trek is waiting for us across the moraines to our next camp 2 on the glacier at 5550 m. (B,L,D)

Day 3: Summit. Reaching the summit takes about 7 hours plus 3 hours to return to Camp 2. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Trek to Base Camp. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Return to La Paz. (B)

AABC03   Illampu (6380 m) Classic route            8D/7N

 

The route is quite technically demanding and strenuous. The climb is recommended for experienced climbers.

Day 1:  Sorata. We drive by car from La Paz to the colourful valley of Sorata, at the foothills of the Illampu. Hotel. (L,D)

Day 2: Ancoma. We continue our trip by 4WD vehicle for about 5 hours to the town of Ancoma. After lunch we set for a 3-hour walk until we reach our base campsite at Aguas Calientes (4400 m). (B,L,D)

Day 3: Glacier. Trek to the base of the glacier. 4 hours trek. Camp. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Altitude camp. Today’s trek is about 5 hours; we transfer our gear to the next altitude camp at 5500 m. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Summit. 8 hours of climbing and 5 hours for the return to our altitude camp. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Base Camp. We trek down to our base camp at Aguas Calientes. (B,L,D)

Day 7: Descent to Ancoma. (B,L,D)

Day 8: Return to La Paz (B)

AABC04  Ancohuma (6430 m) Classic route    9D/8N

 

 

Day 1: Ancoma. We drive for 3 hours from La Paz to Sorata where we have our lunch. Then we continue by 4 WD for about 4 hours until we reach the town of Ancoma, lying at the foothills of the Illampu. Camp at 3900 m. (L,D)

Day 2: Rinconada. 4 hours climb is needed to the pass of Korwasini (4480 m) and another 2 hours to the moraines. Camp at 4000 m. (B,L,D)

Day 3: Base Camp. We will cross the moraines that lead us to the base camp at the Ancohuma glacier. Camp at 4900 m.

Day 4: Altitude camp. We will make a 5-hour crossing to the snowfields where we will set our next camp at 5700 m. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Summit. It takes about 5 hours to reach the summit along easy snow walls and plains. 3 hours for the return to our altitude camp. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Descent to Rinconada. Camp. (B,L,D)

Day 7: Return to Ancoma. Camp (B,L,D)

Day 8: Return to Sorata. In the afternoon optional visit to the caves of San Pedro. Hotel. (B,L)

Day 9: Return to La Paz. (B)

AABC05          Sajama (6548 m)           6D/5N

 

In the heart of the Sajama National Park and in the west mountain range, the highest point of Bolivia, the Sajama summit towers out from its beautiful surrounding with plenty of wildlife.

 

Day 1: Sajama. Departure from La Paz to the village of Sajama at 4400 m. Camp. (L,D)

Day 2: Base camp. Climb to the base camp at 4700 m. Camp. (B,L,D)

Day 3: Altitude camp. 5 hours climb to the high camp (5600 m). (B,L,D)

Day 4: Summit. The climb and return to the Sajama summit takes a total of about 12 hours. High camp. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Base camp and Sajama hot springs. Today we relax in the hot water springs near the Sajama for a joyful celebration. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Long journey to La Paz. (B)

AABC06          Condoriri (5648m)         4D/3N

 

Day 1: Depart La Paz in the morning bound for trailhead at Laguna Tuni. After a two-hour hike we arrive at Laguna Chiar Khota, the shores of which serve as base camp (elevation 4,700m).

Day 2: A non-technical day hike to the summit of the Apacheta pass (elevation 5,365m) provides spectacular views, as well as assisting in acclimatization. One option is to move onto one of the nearby glaciers and practice ice climbing techniques.

Day 3: We depart early in the morning bound for the Cabeza de Condoriri (elevation 5,648m). The route is simply spectacular with plenty of breath-taking exposure offering an excellent mix of glacier, ice and snow climbing. Return to Base camp.

Day 4: We return to La Paz.
